Lament of the Stay At Home Mum

Thinking of my husband
With his feet up on his desk,
His broadsheet & his latte
He deserves a little rest.

He’s a commuter after all,
30 minutes on the train;
All that peace and quiet
Can be trying on the brain.

Lucky me at home,
Down on hands and knees;
Wiping up unspeakables,
Is that juice or wee?

So blessed am I to watch,
My little cherubs grow.
Learning how to throw their food,
And shout, “no! no! no! no!”

Not for me the whirr and hum
Of the city, of industry!
I’m happy here “relaxing”
Among the snot debris.

I know it’s not that easy,
It’s tough at the office too,
But at least there is no audience,
If he needs to…

brush his teeth.

    Haha, oh yes! Love the ‘snot debris’ – the line that is, not the actual stuff which currently adorns my sleeve. Thanks for linking this to #WhatImWriting, you’ve given me a giggle. xx

    • You find it in all sorts of places! Thank you very much, glad you liked it xx

  4. How often do I think – ‘All that peace and quiet, can be trying on the brain’ ? Most days I would say 😉 I wish I could commute to work – truth is I get up an hour early for my ‘commute’/brain reboot, but I don’t get it at the end of the day! #whai’mwriting

    • I know, imagine, 2 hours to yourself EVERY DAY! I don’t feel too envious at the moment though since it’s dark. I like your idea of the reboot time, must try that!

    Haha oh this brought a smile to my face today, especially the snot debris line! I enjoy my peace and quiet on the commute to work, I see going to work as my ‘me’ time away from the chaos of family life #WhatImWriting

  6. Hahaha…Loved this poem! Who wouldn’t love an audience for the teeth brushing? #WhatImWriting

  8. […] Mr Brightness (he’ll love that, he’ll think I’m being sarcastic, ha!) has been the missing piece to our quadrilateral on my blog until now, although he has featured on the peripheries when I’ve lamented our previous carefree travels together and the lot of the stay at home mum. […]
