Pink Sand Days

These are the things

That I will recall,

From that holiday we took

When you were both very small.

Pineapple skin

As I kiss Artie’s hand.

His disgust at the pool,

His protests at the sand.

Until the last day

When he suddenly decided

He quite liked in a way

That which he’d all week derided.

His tight little fists,

Clenching fish cakes and fries.

His delight at the birds,

Watching them fly.

“What did you like best

Dylan?”, I said

As I scooped down

And kissed your sandy head.

You thought for a moment

Then grinned with your eyes

“Sharks, fishes and Daddy!”

You said with a smile.

“Oh no, sorry Mummy,

The swimming pool!”

Filled with water

Like rocket fuel.

Eight hour flights

Yet I have no regrets

For the look on your face,

I will never forget;

As you swam in the pool,

With a wide open grin

Brighter than sunshine,

Lit from within.

Things to remember

Still holiday dreaming over here after our holiday in Barbados and wondering what to do with ourselves this summer (time to refer back to the bucket list).

I’m putting together a list of dream features for holiday accommodation with small children so look out for that this week.

Do you have your next holiday booked?

  1. That is so beautiful, you’re very talented. We will only be staying at home this year – hope for the sunshine holiday next year though.
