In Every Blade Of Grass

It’s not always easy this motherhood lark.

Here’s the second instalment of The Night Feed Collection, chronically the dark thoughts that can sometimes cloud your mind in the middle of the night when you’re a parent of little people.

As I said in my first poem in this collection, lack of sleep, 3am feeds, post-birth recovery and roller coaster hormones can be a toxic mix!

When my first son Dylan was a newborn and I was up in the middle of the night feeding him, I would often worry about something happening to me or Mr Brightness.

I realise writing this that since having Arthur I have not been as worried about this and I think that’s because if anything happened to me & Mr Brightness now, I know that the boys would have each other and I draw great comfort from that.

This poem was written in the early hours of the early days after the birth of my first son, Dylan.

In Every Blade Of Grass

I will be in the trees, the wind, the stars;

I will not go far, I am in you

And you in me, my heart, my soul.

I will be in every blade of grass.

I will watch you grow; each hair, each toe.

I will not miss, and you will not see

But know that I am there,

To care, to love, to kiss.

My son.
